Indiana benefits from the rich soil quality and favorable growing climates found throughout the Midwest allowing it to produce a diverse mix of crops. Over 65% of Indiana’s land area is devoted to farmland in various capacities, making up nearly 15 million acres of cropland, timberland, and pastureland. Indiana is ranked 10th in the United States in agricultural production with Corn, Soybeans, and Hogs making up more than 70% of the state’s agricultural sales. Interestingly, Indiana is a top ranking producer of Popcorn, Ducks, Tomatoes and Spearmint, which not only displays their vast diversity of commodities, but also their food processing excellence.
