Agriculture is the number one economic enterprise in Pennsylvania and the state ranks 19th in the United States in terms of agricultural sales. The top commodities produced and sold in Pennsylvania include: Milk, Chicken Eggs, Chicken Broilers, and Cattle. With the majority of their land covered in forests and as the home for several major food processing companies, forest products and food products generate the most revenue from exports in the state. As of 2017, there were a total of 53,157 farms in Pennsylvania across more than 7.2 million acres of farmland with an average size of 137 acres.
